To be on the safe side of things, bring the fish to any aquarium to have it scanned, and compare its number with that on the cert. Otherwise, you can never be too sure these days.........
As for crossing, it would be faster if the xback is kept in a light blue or white tank, as compare to a darker tank. Xbacks, in general, can cross as early as 2 years and as late as 5-7 years.
Lastly, buy the fish only if you like it very much. If you are not too comfortable with its crossing in the first place, why compromise?
